Support patient families' needs

Taking care of children with serious illnesses puts a great burden to their parents. Thanks to the staunch support of Mrs Wong Tang Mei-wah, the hospital is able to implement the following initiatives to offer a helping hand to patients' families.
Wheelchair loan service
The hospital has recently set up a wheelchair bank with a batch of wheelchairs donated by Mrs Wong. Patients in need can borrow them for short-term use.
Some children become wheelchair dependent due to major change in physical condition, while others need it temporarily such as after surgery. A timely and suitable wheelchair helps to promote physical and mental wellbeing, which makes a significant difference to patients and their families. Children are able to return to school and go out with family and friends, and have a better quality of life.
Tiffany, a girl with congenital disease, needs to purchase a self-propelled wheelchair, but delivery will take at least six months. Her mom appreciates the loan service, "Besides having self-care training at school, daily practice is also essential. With the wheelchair borrowed from the hospital, Tiffany can start practising at home earlier and keep up with the progress. This strengthens her independence and reduces my burden."

Family Overnight Rooms sponsorship programme
The Family Overnight Rooms at HKCH offers inpatients' carers a comfortable place to recuperate when taking care of their loved ones. However, some of them may not be able to afford the room charges.
Families facing financial difficulties could apply for full or partial fee sponsorship. The programme is supported by the donation from Mrs Wong in name of her late husband.
