Interdisciplinary Team

From before birth to grown-up, each involved subspecialty provides specific treatments at different stages according to needs. These include: Paediatric Surgeon, Paediatrician, ENT Surgeon and Audiologist, Geneticist, Speech Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse Specialist, Orthodontist with Dental Technician, Dento-Maxillofacial Surgeon, Obstetrician.

Treatment Overview & Timeline

Despite birth defect, with timely and appropriate treatments, the majority of children with cleft thrive without major problems and integrate normally into society like other children. Various treatment needs arise at different stages in children with cleft; regular and long term review is therefore necessary until the child is grown up with completion of treatment.

Patient's Stories

Tsz-Lok's mother
I remember whilst still pregnant in 2014, I was devastated to find out that my son had cleft lip and palate. Luckily after birth, a team of experts from the hospital came to treat him, with lip repair operation at 3 months, palate repair operation at 10 months and subsequent care program tailored for him, so that he thrived as a healthy child. I am very thankful to the whole cleft team. It is an outstanding interdisciplinary service in the public sector.

Mr Lam
During his convalescence, I was very pleased to see that my child received attentive care from the team who took heart to understand his needs. For motivating his confidence, he enjoyed a rewarding experience in the workshop. He gained a great deal through games therein. Upon its completion, he wants to join the workshop again.

Mrs Leung
The care team and setting of the Children's Hospital are dedicated in caring for children with cleft, helping them to attain normal growth and development. Watching my child grow, I am truly grateful to each and every hospital team member who contributed.
