Introduction of HKCH Simulation Training Centre

The Hong Kong Children's Hospital Simulation Training Centre (HKCHSTC; the Centre) is a pioneering hub dedicated to transforming paediatric healthcare training. Its mission is to advance the quality and safety of paediatric care in Hong Kong and beyond through immersive, state-of-the-art simulation-based training for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Since its establishment, the Centre has evolved from delivering local courses to expanding its programmes to include an array of international training opportunities and collaborations. This global perspective, coupled with comprehensive local training courses, reflects our dedication in nurturing the next generation of paediatric healthcare professionals and setting new benchmarks in child health.

To date, the Centre has delivered over 850 training sessions and engaged more than 11,000 participants, including medical students, doctors, and specialised healthcare providers. By leveraging innovative simulation technologies, we provide a controlled and realistic environment for doctors to master essential clinical skills, refine their ability to communicate and work as a team and confidently manage paediatric emergencies. This approach not only enhances clinical competence, but also directly enhances patient safety and healthcare outcomes.

The Centre's key features are:

• Cutting-edge simulation technologies: High-fidelity manikins and ultrasound simulators to recreate a wide range of paediatric scenarios.
• Specialised facilities: A repurposed ambulance for emergency transport training and advanced simulation labs to replicate diverse clinical environments - from general wards to intensive care units and operating theatres.
• Accreditation and recognition: The HKCHSTC is the only centre in Hong Kong accredited by the American Academy of Pediatrics to offer the Neonatal Resuscitation Program^® (NRP^®). It is also an American Heart Association (AHA) accredited centre which delivers internationally recognised life support courses. These accreditations highlight the Centre's commitment to the highest standards in paediatric training.
