Prosthetics and Orthotics

Introduction

Prosthetics and Orthotics is one of the allied health team members promoting the health and rehabilitation of patients. Based on the principles of human anatomy and biomechanics, we provide prostheses, orthoses and assistive devices to babies, children and adolescents.

Prosthetic treatment is the application of substitutes for lost limb parts to restore the amputee's functions and/or cosmesis.

Orthotic treatment is the application of dynamic and static splints, braces and slings directly and externally to the patient's body to support, correct or compensate for a skeletal deformity, fracture or weakness however caused. For example, various foot orthoses for children’s flat feet.
