The committed staff of HKCH have remained resilient through the epidemic, going above and beyond the call of duty. While pouring our resources to battle against the coronavirus and take care of those infected, we must also maintain our emergency and essential services for other patients with chronic and serious illnesses. During the fifth wave, we continue to provide chemotherapy, haematopoietic stem cell transplant, tumor surgery, dialysis and the like. We have also performed some renal transplants and our first heart transplant.

As HKCH is equipped with the right hardware and experience, we shoulder the responsibility to vaccinate the city's children. A positive vaccination experience makes children more willing to take the next dose and influence their peers. This is an important step to build a wall of defence in the school community.

Gardening is a new hobby I have picked up, and clivia is my favourite plant. Its upright, sword-like leaves symbolise fortitude, and its vibrant flowers give an uplifting vibe. COVID numbers have been dropping. I hope this trend would continue and we could all stand tall like the clivia.

Dr Lee Tsz-leung, Hospital Chief Executive
