Introduction

The Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (HKCH) is firmly committed to advancing paediatric research to improve patient care and develop evidence based practices. This commitment includes fostering innovative clinical practices, nurturing the next generation of clinician scientists, and enabling new discoveries in various childhood, genetic and rare diseases. HKCH collaborates closely with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to pursue basic and translational research across multiple specialties.

To support this mission, HKCH has established dedicated research infrastructure:

• Research Office – to coordinate and support research activities
• Research Laboratories – to provide a well-equipped environment for basic and translational research
• Research Data Centre – to facilitate secure, high quality data management and analysis
• Clinical Trial Centre – to enable well-designed clinical studies

To ensure robust governance for research initiatives, the HKCH Research Steering Committee was established in 2018. Membership includes the HKCH Hospital Chief Executive, Deputy Hospital Chief Executives, and representatives from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of HKU and CUHK, and HKCH medical, nursing and allied health teams.
