Introduction
Our unit serves as Hong Kong’s designated tertiary referral centre for infants and children with complex digestive, liver, and nutritional conditions.
We accept referrals from both public and private sectors, providing advanced diagnostic interventions and comprehensive multidisciplinary care specialized for children, in a supportive and child-friendly environment.
We lead and coordinate a territory-wide paediatric gastroenterology service network through close collaboration with regional hospitals, striving to set a world-class standard of paediatric gastroenterology care in Hong Kong.
Scope of Services
Our unit specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex and complicated digestive, liver, and nutritional conditions in children. Our clinical service includes, but is not limited to:
Gastrointestinal disorders
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), severe motility disorders, and other complex conditions requiring multidisciplinary care.
- Chronic diarrhoea, recurrent abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and other functional gastrointestinal conditions requiring advanced diagnostic investigation.
Intestinal failure and advanced nutrition
Short bowel syndrome and other causes of intestinal failure necessitating specialized nutritional support.
Hepatology
Chronic liver diseases and other hepatobiliary conditions requiring advanced investigations such as genetic investigations or liver biopsy.
Advanced diagnostic investigations
To facilitate accurate diagnosis and assessment, we offer a wide range of advanced paediatric-specific diagnostics, including:
- Paediatric diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopy
- Intestinal ultrasound
- Magnetic Resonance Enterography (MRE)
- 24-hour Oesophageal pH/impedance study
- Urea breath test and other breath tests
