Haematology and Oncology
Introduction
We provide diagnosis and treatment for all children in the local public healthcare system who suffer from cancers and complicated blood disorders. Our service is formed by merging the five children's cancer centres originally located at the Queen Mary Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, and Tuen Mun Hospital.
We aim to deliver a comprehensive, high-quality, subspecialist-led and world class paediatric haematology and oncology service in a children-friendly environment. Our team is composed of skilled staff committed to providing holistic care for children and their families.
We are the only training centre of paediatric haematology and oncology specialists in Hong Kong. We also collaborate with the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and actively engage in medical research to explore new and better treatment for our children.
Our treatment protocols are in line with the most up-to-date international standard. We also engage in international multi-centre clinical trials and patients can opt to participate or adopt our existing in-house protocols.
Scope of Services
We serve as the tertiary referral centre for children with cancers and blood disorders, such as transfusion dependent thalassaemia and haemophilia, providing inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory service.
Patients are given highly sub-specialised care by our three sub-specialty teams:
- Leukaemia, lymphoma and haematology team
- Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy team
- Solid tumours and brain tumours team
In addition, we provide annual comprehensive outpatient evaluation service for patients under 18 years old with blood disorders. We are also responsible for standardizing the treatment protocols within the Hospital Authority so that all patients are under the same standard of care.
