HKCH is going to serve as a tertiary territory-wide referral centre for

diagnosis and treatment of complex cases requiring multidisciplinary management or surgical intervention in addition to secondary care

The paediatric services in HA will adopt a hub-and-spoke model, where HKCH is the hub and the existing paediatric departments in other public hospitals as the spoke.  HKCH is going to serve as a tertiary territory-wide referral centre for diagnosis and treatment of complex cases requiring multidisciplinary management or surgical intervention in addition to secondary care.  The paediatric departments and related specialties in other public hospitals will contribute cases, manpower and expertise to facilitate the management of more complex tertiary cases at the hub, while continuing to provide acute emergency, secondary, step-down and community paediatric care in their respective communities.

Current paediatric service provision has therefore to be reviewed to determine how the services can be reconfigured and redistributed to facilitate the development of the overall paediatric service network.

We are currently working on the paediatric service re-organization. Examples of services to be provided in HKCH at the initial phase include paediatric oncology, cardiology, nephrology, surgical and intensive care, etc.
